A lightning which struck and ignited a pine tree into a crackling fire on Friday enthralled the neighbourhood of Caukuro Place in Kinoya, Nasinu.

Raijeli Seuvou, 22, said she was scared seeing the tree ablaze despite the heavy downpour at that time.

“It was the first time in my life to have come across such things, I could even hear the tree crackling and thank God it did not fall onto our house or hurt anyone,” she said.

The pine tree was two steps away from their home.

Ms Seuvou said the internet and telephone connections were defective after the lightning strike till yesterday when the Fiji Sun visited the neighbourhood.

“Even our television screen was not working. It also struck our clothes line which was tied to the corner of our house,” she said.

She says the burning tree could be seen from afar.

“It was seen from Laucala,” Ms Seuvou said.

“We were really scared but I am thankful we’re safe.”
