The ruling on a bail application for two men who appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of illicit drugs will be made today.

53-year-old gardener Peter Fong has an additional charge of bribery.

It is alleged that on December, 2, 2016, Fong at Samabula without lawful authority was in possession of 12.9 grammes of methamphetamine and 0.9 grammes of marijuana.

It is also alleged that Fong without reasonable excuse offered to provide a benefit of $5000 to a special constable.

Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa will deliver his bail ruling today after both accused applied for bail.

Solomoni Boini, 42, a fisherman is charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that on December 2, 2016, Boini at Samabula without lawful authority was in possession of 0.1 grammes of methamphetamine and 4.7 grammes of marijuana.

Police Prosecutor Corporal Shanil Kumar objected to bail on the grounds that it was a serious offence and that both accused were in possession of two types of drugs.

That was becoming a prevalent offence.

Corporal Kumar said that it was in the interest of justice that they be remanded.
