New Wheels For Waiyevo Hospital

Government grateful to Rotary club members for well thought initiative.
The Waiyevo Hospital on Taveuni Island has finally received a new ambulance.
During the handing over yesterday, the Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Alex O’Connor, said the ambulance would greatly ease the burden of arranging transport for patients who have to be referred to the Labasa Hospital.
“Past experience has shown that patients had to wait for hours in Natuvu for the next available ambulance coming right from Labasa Hospital,” Mr O’Connor said.
“We are very grateful to Doctor Hannibal at Natuvu Creek Clinic for kindly agreeing for the set up of a garage for the ambulance at his clinic.
“Taveuni is one of the most affected areas after the tragic Tropical Cyclone Winston and I must solely commend the people for their resilience and endurance.
“This event reminds me that the hope is still alive in our beloved nations despite enduring the strongest cyclone that was ever recorded in the South Hemisphere we were able to rebuild back and rebuild stronger together.”
The Taveuni Rotary Club, which has international partnership, has punched above its weight to be part of the Government’s rehabilitation effort.
“The Taveuni Board of Visitors are indeed fortunate to have two Rotary club members who were instrumental in securing the ambulance that will now facilitate the transfer of patients from Taveuni, across the Somosomo strait to Natuvu and to Labasa Hospital,” Mr O’Connor said.
“It is my fervent wish that this healthy partnership will continue to find new strength and gather further momentum.”
