Club Provides Families With Groceries

Four families in Macuata Province received early Christmas presents from Raiderz Club over the weekend.

The club consisting of 18 taxi drivers from Labasa was formed this year to provide needs for struggling families.

One of the recipients 65-year-old Prabha Wati, of Lajonia, Labasa said she was shocked and surprised to see the group with groceries at her doorstep.

“My husband, Dinesh Chand, 74, a stroke patient while lying on bed was also shocked to see the group,” Ms Wati said.

“We are so happy to be blessed with so many food items; this is a surprise an early Christmas gift for us.”

Raiderz Club vice president Davy Sami said while they made these gift presentations they sat down with the families for a chat.

“The purpose of having to visit was to make them feel loved and cared for and while doing this, they felt happy to share with us about their past Christmas celebrations. Some took time to share about their problems,” Mr Sami said.

Raiderz Club secretary Rajneel Maharaj said each family received food items worth $500.

“All our recipients are either stricken by poverty or illness,” Mr Maharaj said.

“This is a festive season and everyone is looking forward to it.

“Christmas celebration without food on the table is incomplete.

“This is why we thought to reach out to the poorest of the poor early so that they don’t have to worry about where to get money to buy food for Christmas.”
