The Fijian men’s Under-18 basketball team regrouped in the second round of the FIBA U18 Oceania Championship to win their second match 65-49 against Tahiti at the Vodafone Arena, Suva. last night.

The hosts lost their opening match to Guam 51-64 on Monday night and regrouped well for their second match to keep their chances alive in the championship.

Both the Fijian men and women side will take on Australia in their third match today, the men will play at 3pm while the women at 4pm.

Basketball Fiji chief operations officer, Laisiasa Puamau said that while the first games for both teams did not provide a win, it did expose areas that the coaches would focus on to improve over the course of the six- day FIBA U18 Oceania Basketball Championship.

“While the aim at this championship is to improve our ranking, the U18 squad is a pathway for aspiring Fijian Basket ballers to play at development level by gaining exposure at international events like the Oceania Championship,” Puamau said.
