Youth Integrity volunteers and Community Representatives walk  from Tailevu to Suva over a five day period

The “Walking out Corruption” Campaign will see youth integrity volunteers and community representatives walking from Tailevu to Suva over a five day period.

“We intend to educate the public on the importance of integrity and anti corruption,” said Transparency Fiji’s walk out corruption organiser, Jofiliti Veikoso.

Mr Veikoso said they would stop over in selected villages such as Nayavu, Nasautoka, Dakuivuna among others in the evenings and have informal talanoa sessions on integrity.

“Corruption could be one of the biggest tragedies of mankind for the simple reason that it is ongoing and difficult to combat,” he said.

The organisation would like to work closely with Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) and civil society organisations to ensure that those who are victims or witnesses to corruption can come forward and report it.

Executive director of Transparency International, Koila Kabu said the campaign was a lead-up to the International Anti-Corruption Day that was celebrated globally on December 9.

“Our Walk Out Corruption programme will bring us back to Suva on Friday where we will have a special event highlighting the need to inculcate integrity values and the importance of working with anti corruption agencies like FICAC,” said Ms Kabu.

Ms Kabu thanked all corporate donours and the community for their generous donation of resources that would be used in the Campaign and the International Anti-Corruption Day event this Friday.
