Three Asians Held For Alleged Illegal Sales

Police find laptops, cash, iPads and iPhones in car.
Three Asian nationals were detained yesterday at the Namaka Police Station after cash, laptops iPads and iPhones were allegedly found inside their rental car.
It is also alleged that the items may have been cleared from a consignment brought in through the Nadi International Airport and cleared by another Asian national from Suva.
Police also learned that the three suspects had no work permits. They were arrested at Naidovi, outside Nadi, allegedly trying to sell the items to residents in the area.
A resident, Vivendra Vicky Singh, said he was at home yesterday morning ready to attend work when an Asian man allegedly came to his house trying to sell a laptop and phone.
“He told us not to tell Police and that’s when I knew something was wrong,” he said.
His wife, Sneh Lata Singh, advised him against buying and they refused the alleged sale.
“About five other people from the area came and informed Police that they too were approached.
“They alleged one of the Asian nationals asked them to give the money secretly and not for anyone to see.”
Police officers from Nadi soon arrived in the area and discovered the items and cash inside the rental car.
Mr Singh, who, a week earlier had handed over a person who was on the run from Police, said they wanted to keep their community clean and stop such illegal activities.
No official comment could be obtained from Police.
