WAF Working To Meet Demands In Taveuni

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) continues to work around the clock to supply clean and safe drinking water to the people of Taveuni.
Currently, four water-carting trucks are facing mechanical problems, with only one truck currently available to cart water. The WAF mechanics are working to repair the water carting trucks.
WAF is investigating the possibility of hiring of an additional five trucks from Savusavu to be engaged in water carting operations in Taveuni.
This would allow repair works on the damaged WAF trucks to be completed without affecting the water carting operations.
Meanwhile, the higher elevated areas in the South and in the North of the island continue to face ongoing difficulties.
The challenge faced by WAF is that the water source for the Naselesele reticulation has slowly dried up, this is a natural occurrence that is beyond the Authority’s control.
The Mua Intake, the only water source in Taveuni North, has been impacted by the ongoing dry spell in the past months and has not been at full operational capacity and insufficient to meet current demand.
In the South, the desalination plants are under repair and a team is also installing new generators.
The Qarawalu lower Reservoir water level this morning was 1.2m due to the repair works in progress for the Desalination Plant.
Again, WAF continues to supplement this by water carting to more than 1,000 people living in metered and non-metered households on higher elevations.
However, the central area of Taveuni remains trouble-free, with three water sources meeting the peoples’ needs and supplying water for carting to those in need.
The Authority continues to explore additional water supply sources in both the North and South.
