Retired Officer Shares Knowledge, Skills

Republic of Fiji Military Forces senior non commissioned officer (SNCO), Staff Sergeant Iliesa Drewai has proved that contracting of retirees contributes positively to Government’s objective in nation-building.

Staff Sergeant Drewai, 56, retired from the force recently. He led nine RFMF engineers by undertaking the Prime Minister’s project at Holy Family Primary School in building a new 1×4 classroom block.

RFMF contracts retired personnel, like Staff Sergeant Drewai, in order to build the capacity of emerging troops in the field.

Additionally, Staff Sergeant Drewai also assisted in knowledge-sharing and skills to the 11 young men and women being who were attached to the squadron through the National Employment Centre programme.

During Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto’s visit at the project site, Staff Sergeant Drewai discussed the project’s progress and the delays which were beyond their control.

“We could have completed the project earlier, but the delay in supply of materials had prolonged the construction,” he said.

However, the SNCO added that the attachment of the 11 young men and women was a worthwhile exercise for them.

“They boosted our workforce and their good conduct contributed to our achievement,” he said.

He said their attachment provided them with the opportunity to impart their knowledge to the nation’s workforce.

The project which was to have taken three months, will be complete before Christmas.
