Vital To Implement Bylaws: Katonitabua

The Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs Naipote Katonibau yesterday stressed the importance of the implementation of the draft village by-laws to the 16 districts of the province during the Naitasiri Day.

“It is very important that we adhere to the bylaws and for the younger generation to follow,” he said to the big crowd at Syria Park in Nausori.

“The bylaws will teach us how to talk, behave and also teaches us on how to conserve our resources.”

Mr Katonibau said that bylaws had not been in use now for over 50 years.

“This is the third time the by-law is being introduced, so this is not a new thing, it has always been there,” he said.

The first time village bylaws were introduced was in 1876.

Meanwhile funding for the Provincial Student Scholarship was the main aim for the Naitasiri Day yesterday and levies allocated to the different districts.

The Syria Park crowd was entertained with music and the women of the province showcased their craft in the different stalls.

The two-day programme ends today.
