Fijian Women Win B Final

The Fijian women won the B-Division gold medal in the FIBA Oceania U18 Championship after defeating Tahiti 71-37 at the Vodafone Arena yesterday.
The Esala Banuve coached-side dominated from the opening quarter and led 40-15 at halftime.
The Fijian men’s side settled for silver in the men’s B-Division final after losing to Samoa 57-61.
FIBA regional director David Crocker calls on Pacific Island teams to start development early.
“The competition level is very strong, when we look at the Australia women’s team as they have eight of the current world champions playing from their youth team.
“We are urging small nations to start their development early, identify potentials from 12 years and start teaching them fundamental skills.
“There is a big gap between Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Island teams.”
Meanwhile Australia will take on New Zealand in the women’s and men’s final later today.
