The Vodafone Fijian 7s have opted to take the underdog tag in the Cape Town Sevens in South Africa, which kicks-off tonight. Interim head coach Naca Cawanibuka said yesterday that bookmakers in Cape Town have placed their team as the favourite to win the tournament followed by the Fijians, New Zealand, England and Australia respectively

“South Africa is on a high after their win in Dubai,” Cawanibuka said.

“So it is good for us as we get on with our process and try to make things right especially in areas we are working on.”

He indicated that they are now working towards their pool opening clash against Japan before they turn their focus to Kenya and France.

VICI, MULEVORO IN

Dashing winger Josua Vici has finally made the 12-member squad for the Cape Town Sevens. Vici who was the youngest player in last year’s World Sevens Series win was also part of the Rio Olympic Games training-squad where he was one of the fittest players.

Cawanibuka said Vici replaces Waisea Nacuqu. Also forcing his way into the team is veteran Emosi Mulevoro who is going to play at halfback and hooker. He takes over from veteran forward Nemani Nagusa who is on a stand-by.
