The Vodafone Fijian Under-20 rugby team celebrated the birthday of one of the players after the captain’s run at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

And Cautata, Bau, Tailevu native Temo Mayanavanua, who turned 19 yesterday, pleads for fans to turn up in numbers when they play Tonga in the deciding Oceania Rugby Trophy match at 3pm today

Mayanavanua, who has maternal links to Nakalou,  Macuata, Vanua Levu, is the cousin of Vodafone Fijian 7s skipper Osea Kolinisau.

“I was raised by the Kolinisau family with Osea and I’m really thankful that he taught me a lot about rugby.

“Rugby was not in my mind when I was growing up.  All I know was to study hard and become a lawyer but as time goes on I saw rugby as a possible career for me,” Mayanavanua said.

The outspoken Tailevu native looks forward to their game against Tonga.

“We all know Fiji and Tonga are traditional rivals, therefore it will not be easy game.

“The boys are excited as we have done the hard yards but as a host nation we have to defend our turf,” he added.

“We are calling on all our supporters, friends and families to come out in numbers because this will definitely boost our performance if we hear people cheering for us.”

Meanwhile, team captain Eroni Mawi also echoed the same sentiments and is looking forward to a great match against the Tongans.

“We have done what we wanted to do and we are looking forward to do our country proud,” Mawi said.
