The 4R Electrical Football Club won their pool opener by edging out Civic Football Club 2-1   in the 2016 Vodafone National Club Championship at the Fiji Football Academy ground in Ba yesterday.

The Ba-based club coach, Imdad Ali, was happy with the win and told SUNsports that they played well despite the festive season.

“I think the performance was good and the boys were having a bit of a relaxed time due to the festive season,” he said.

Ali said that they were expecting a win over Civic FC as they are the defending NCC champions.

The 4R Electrical side goals were scored by Patrick Sarwan after he was assisted by Meli Codro while veteran Pita Rabo scored Civic’s lone goal.

Civic played with 10 players after reliable defender Filipe Baravilala copped a red card in the first half while agile goalkeeper Emori Ragata was yellow-carded late in the second half along with Codro.

Civic FC secretary, Bimal Chauhan, said they missed a lot of scoring opportunities.

“We had our chances but we missed it which came back to bite us in the end,” he said.

Chauhan also raised his concerns on the performance of the referees.

“The standard is poor and hopefully Fiji FA will look into this especially on unfit referees,” he added.
