The Financial Management Counsellor Association of Fiji (FMCAF) will improve the micro, small and medium enterprises (SME’s) and agribusiness.

These were the remarks made by the acting chief executive officer of Fiji Development Bank, Nafitalai Cakacaka when he officiated at the official launch of FMCAF at Suva Business Centre last Friday.

Mr Cakacaka said it was important to formalise an association which could be recognised by the financial institutions as well.

“It’s having the capacity and the ability to provide the service you’re tasked to do to bring together the public. Project to the financial sector,” Mr Cakacaka said.

He said over the years there was always a lack of coordination and connectivity between bank, project, and the investors.

“The presence of FMCAF will allow for a better link between the banks, investors, and the project,” he said.

Mr Cakacaka added the programme launch was a milestone for the Association.

FMCAF national co-ordinator, Lagi Fisher said they had assisted farmers in the North and West and would continue to do so.

“Most farmers and small businesses are not aware that such facility exist so we trying to bridge that gap,” Mr  Fisher said.

“The Association has assisted 23 unbankable livestock farmers in the North and Western Division which provided access to a loan of $1.3million.”

FMCAF aspires to provide a one-stop shop for farmers and investors with services available Fiji.

The association is formed as part of the European Union  funded Improvement of Key Services to Agriculture and Livestock (IKSA/L) project sustainability plan.

The plan is aimes at ensuring farmers and SME’s are able to continue with the access of advisory services .
