Eleven clubs would be playing their level best to win this year’s Vodafone National Club Championship at the Fiji FA Academy ground in Ba this weekend.

Fiji Football Association media officer, Avikash Chand confirmed yesterday that Greenstar Football Club from Nadroga could not play in the championship due to some technicalities.

“They had problems with their registration,” Chand told SUNsports.

He said that Bureta FC and Nailaga FC were the two teams remaining in Pool B.

“Bureta and Nailaga would play a match and the winner will qualify to the semi- finals,” he said.

Later in the evening Bureta FC have qualified to the semi-finals after they beat Nailaga FC 2-0.

Chand added that the 4R Electrical Football Club and Civic FC are top favourites to win the championship.

“4R Electric are the defending champions who are also top favourites. Likewise Civic from Suva are in the favourite list as they have some Suva players in their squad along with Lautoka’s Press Football Club. FC Gandhi played really well last year so there is expectation from them to perform better this year.”

He also said there were some difficulties faced during the qualifiers of the NCC.

“This year we had some problems because we did not have the zonal playoffs.

“We used to have zonal tournaments and then the final playoffs but this year there were some districts which could not finish their local league on time,” he said.

Chand also indicated that the national reps were given releases to play in the championship. He added that the ground condition was in perfect condition despite the heavy rain.

Meanwhile, winners of the championship would get $4500 while the runners- up would pocket $1500.
