Labasa are the winners of the Vodafone Youth League (Northern Division) after beating Dreketi 3-1 at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday. The Baby Babasiga Lions goals were scored by Mohammed Isaac, Ratu Iliesa and Shamal Lal.

Labasa Youth coach Ranjan Sharma said it was a tough physical game.

“Dreketi is a very good team and I thank my players for doing what I had advised them to do and that helped them earn a win,” Sharma said.

“I have 20 players and they are from three secondary schools in Labasa, Naleba College, Labasa Muslim College and Bulileka Sanatan College. I thank the Labasa Football Association officials for their financial support and this encouraged the boys to focus on their six weeks of matches. I personally thank them for having faith in me and to live-up to the expectation and moreover produced the desired result. Now our aim is to win the Vodafone Youth League title.”

Dreketi Youth coach Johan Leewai said he was upset as his two key players, Sonal Khan and Joel Prasad were not allowed to play in the final.

“Ravnit Krishna, a cousin of Roy Krishna was able to score a goal in the first half, but however, I’m happy with my players for trying their best. This team has many dedicated and talented players and I have already selected four players to play in the senior Dreketi team next year.”

Fiji Football Association competitions manager Amitesh Pal has confirmed that the winner from the three divisions would be facing each other from December 14-16 at the Fiji Football academy in Suva.

“The winner from West is Ba while the winner from the South is Rewa and they will face the Northern winners, Labasa during that three-day period of the final playoffs to determine the winners of the Vodafone Youth League,” Pal added.
