Blues FC Score Comeback Win

Aaak Rentals Blues FC are in today’s Vodafone National Club Championship semi-finals for the first time.

The Nadi based-club secured their playoff spot after they beat FC City 2-1 at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba yesterday. Earlier in the day, Blues came from behind to score three goals in the dying minutes to edge out Gandhi FC 3-2.

Nadi midfielder Ame Votoniu and striker Semesa Muadonu had scored for Gandhi FC as they took a commanding 2-0 lead.

But Blues fought back and scored through Alfaz Ali, Mohammed Shafim while Mohammed Shalmeen netted the winner from the penalty spot.

A jubilant Blues couch, Alfaz Ali, said the team’s morale really lifted them after their comeback win.

“I’m really proud that we were two goals down but came back to win the match by 3-2,” he told SUNsports.

“Our fitness level was high and that’s why we won the game.”

Ali said they faced a minor setback before the match when defender William Valentine was stopped by Fiji Football Association officials from participating in the championship.

“Our game plan was to play attacking soccer,” he added.

Gandhi FC team manager, Sarwan Nadan, said they had performed well despite the narrow loss.

“We beat the Blues side in Nadi but they came back to beat us here. We took them lightly because we had beaten them before but they played better and won today’s match.”

Nadan added that they are confident that Blues would do well in the semi-finals.
