More than 300 Muslims gathered yesterday at the Valebasoga Sunni Islamic Centre to celebrate Prophet Muhammad’s birthday in Labasa.

Chief guest Allamh Zulfikar Ali Madani from Pakistan told the crowd that it was important to remember Prophet Muhammad who was also believed to be the last messenger sent by Allah.

“Prophet Muhammad taught us the complete meaning of Islam, surrender and commitment to the will of god through his words, his actions and the revealed book, the Holy Quran,” Mr Ali said.

“Islam followers are fortunate to be believers of the last prophet of god, Prophet Muhammad, the bearer of the message of peace and submission to God.

“He was chosen by god to bring his message and once again to a lost humanity.

“He kept himself pure, merciful, tolerant and righteous in the corrupt society.”

Mr Mandani urged all Muslims to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad in order to live a peaceful life.

“Teachings such as to pray five times a day, help the poor and needy, commit no crime, always forgive others, fulfill promises, always speak the truth and many more true virtues,” he said.

“Islam is not a new religion.

“It consists of the same basic message which God has given in all true religions and all prophets brought this same message for our guidance.”

Valebasoga Sunni Islamic Centre president Saifud Dean said the annual celebration was a joyous occasion.

“We had people coming from all over Vanua Levu on a Sunday to commemorate Jane Eid Milaad-Un-Nabi day,” Mr Dean said.

“We offered prayers and thanksgiving for the life of the esteemed leader, the Prophet Muhammad.”
