The Fijiana XV are going to take whatever they have learned so far and put it into use against Japan in their clash at King’s Park in Hong Kong today.

The Fijiana XV need to win to keep their chances of qualifying to next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup alive.

In their first playoff match they were trounced 45-7 by Hong Kong and if they lose to Japan, then it would wrap up the qualification for the Asian sides who will meet on Saturday at the Hong Kong Football Stadium.

Fijiana XV head coach, Seremaia Bai told Hong Kong Rugby Union website that they’ve got to take the positives and believe in their system and their game plan.

“Once we moved the ball we looked good,” Bai said.

“On our try we did the moves we planned and it worked but when there are penalties against you and mistakes it makes it difficult to play.”

Bai who was gracious in defeat said the credit goes to the Hong Kong women’s side.

“I thought they deserved it. They were very organised and controlled the play, so the best team won,” he added.

JAPANESE TEENS

Japanese high school students Shione Nakayama, Riho Kurogi, Saki Minanmi, Mizuki Honma, Yuki Sue and Ai Hyugaji are expected to play for the Japan women’s rugby side against the Fijiana XV today.

Japan’s bright future in the women’s game was highlighted during this year’s Asia Rugby Championship where they had six teenagers in the squad.

In the ARC final the Ryuji Nakatake captained- side ran in tries in their 30-13 win over Hong Kong to claim the silverware.
