The director for Fiji Meteorological Services, Ravind Kumar, says weather reports circulating on social media come from unreliable sources.

He said the reports were a cause of confusion among the general public.

He asked members of the public to take weather updates from certified official sources.

He said it was better if people took heed of the advice directly sent from the Fiji Meteorological Services or verify the weather updates circulating online with their updates on the websites.

“This has been a concern which has been brought into light during our submissions at one of the committee meetings,” Mr Kumar said.

He said these things got people confused on what to follow and created havoc among the people.

“If someone is putting such updates on social media please ensure to go back to the mandated authorities and verify the news material,” Mr Kumar said.
