218 staff members of Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) and Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Limited (FSHIL) will be sharing $338, 237.38 in bonus.

This was confirmed by Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at the announcement of the 2015 performance payment at Muaiwalu House, Walu Bay, yesterday.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum applauded the staff for their hard work and commitment towards their company.

He said bonuses paid were what a person deserved which was a recognition of their contribution towards the company.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said individual performance was important because it would be reflected in the bonus they received.

“This is what we call performance-based reward system,” he said.

“Over 75 per cent of this bonus is going to the non management staff who are getting the bulk of the bonus.”

Chairperson of FPCL, Shaheen Ali said: “FPCL had an outstanding 2015, with a record dividend payment of $5,070,605 to its shareholders.

“In 2015, FPCL’s net profit after tax of $10.14 million, which was a 53 per cent increase over 2014 financial year.”

He added over the past five years, FPCL had shown exceptional performance with profits increasing yearly which also increased the dividends paid to shareholders.

“The dividend declared for 2015 is a 92 per cent increase from the dividend declared in 2011,” he said.
