Poor Drainage Major Cause Of Flooding’ At Rampur Settlement

Residence of Rampur Settlement in Navua stayed indoors and watched as flood waters rose yesterday.
Resident Sami Veleko said: “We have been experiencing heavy rainfall from last night (Thursday night).
“Our area gets flooded when there is heavy rainfall.
“The major cause of flooding in our settlement is the drainage problem,” he said.
Mr Veleko said there were about 40 households in the settlement.
When the Fiji Sun reached the settlement the water level was knee-high and still rising because the tide was coming in.
“The water might not reach inside our homes, but if worse comes to worse, we will move to the nearest evacuation centre, which is Rampur Primary School,” Mr Veleko said.
Meanwhile, there were no evacuees at the Rampur Primary School and Rampur College.
