Nausori Town Council workers became heroes to six puppies after they were discovered in a manhole in Nausori Town.

Mukesh Chand, one of the five council workers, said: “On Friday we were cleaning all the manhole…when we heard sounds from these puppies,” he said.

“We were cleaning it to clear the blockage for the rainwater to flow.”

A dog, who looked to be the puppies’ mother, was seated on the corridor next to the manhole appearing worried, he said.

Mr Chand said one-by-one they immediately took out the puppies.

“Luckily, the water level was low. We were happy to see the puppies reunited with their mother,” he said.

“It seemed like they were stray dogs. So we left them on the corridor and continued with our work.

“After completing our work, we came to the same spot where we had left the puppies with their mother but they were not there.”
