The Coastline Roos rugby league club is sending three of their players to be part of the women’s tag team at the Central Coast rugby league’s Jason Annear Memorial 9s tournament in Australia. They are Sereima Navoto who is also a qualified referee, Selai Domolailai and Mili Raikivi who will play for Wyong Roos, which is a feeder club to the NRL’s Sydney Roosters.

Fiji National Rugby League development officer, Suliasi Cakautabu, confirmed this to SUNsports yesterday.

“This invitation has boosted the team especially our women’s rugby league competition here in the country, so we have selected these women,” he said.

“This is a blessing, it is also a good time to go to Australia and learn more about women’s rugby league, and it will be a good opportunity for them to play amongst women players in Australia and learn from them. We are glad that Wyong Roos has given us an invitation for the New South Wales Cup competition and they have always supported our club in terms of uniforms and other aspect of the game.”

Cakautabu said the club is trying to tap into women’s rugby league this year.

“The women rugby league world cup will be held in Australia next year and we are encouraging other women that if they missed out on other sport like rugby union, then they are most welcome to use their talent in league,” he said.

Cakautabu said the women would be leaving with the men’s team who are also going to participate in the same tournament as well.

Meanwhile, the Coastline Roos women’s team are also going to participate in the Mana Whey Coral Coast 7s tournament set for January 27, 2017 at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
