Lovo pitch

Samuela Rareba,

Suva

After that seven days of rain, it was such a beauty to wake up and see the sun smiling from the beautiful blue skies.

It has been a while since we experience again such a long rainy weather and my heart goes to those affected, and to Fiji Roads Authority who will now start mending those newly renovated lovo pitches on our roads.

Flood culture

Tukai Lagonilakeba,

Nadi

Everyone throughout the country were pre-warned about flooding, but it was sad to hear people from Rakiraki venting their frustrations and complaining on TV One that they were not warned of the flooding and landslide caused by the Tropical Depression O4F.

Now these things will happen depending on the tropical depression pathway, where you decide to build your home, be it in the low lying areas or beside rivers and mountains.

It does not discriminate because it is a natural disaster, which nobody has any control over, but it can be minimised to an extent.

From irresponsible farming methods with unregulated land use and management, unwarranted dumping of rubbish in rivers and drains, idiotic burning of our garbage, waste and forests, unscrupulous cutting down of our trees and mangroves, lack of reforestations, unused barren hills etc, but all Fijians will have to be ready and heed the warnings from NDMO, Fiji Police Force and our Fiji Meteorological Service office in Nadi.

In reality, this is climate change and if we don’t learn than there is strong evidence before us. Be prepared for the worst because there are more to come.

Our combined positive collective and responsible efforts are called for to lessen the impact. We in Nadi have been spared the wrath this time.

Christmas gift

Wise Muavono,

Lautoka

The Christmas season is meant to bring hope and peace to everyone. On Jesus’ birthday don’t forget to give Jesus a gift. What does he want?

The scriptures says: “As you have done the least of these, so also have you done unto me.” So Jesus would want you to give unto the least of these, that is, those who have little or nothing.

This Christmas, give something to someone who needs it. Feed the hungry. Clothe the naked. Show love to the lonely.

Blessings go forward. God bless you and have a Merry Christmas.

Excessive water bills

Marika Toroca,

Suva

Is it just me or has the general public, who has since been whipped with a massive water bill amounting to a 700 per cent increase for the month of December?

Upon inquiring with them at their office, they insist that we have a leak and a plumber to come and fix it.

I also overheard an irate customer complaining of the same.

And to rub salt to the wound, this happened to both my water accounts in Lautoka and Suva! Coincidence? I don’t think so! Mr CEO, is there something we the public should know about? It’s time to privatise WAF and get rid of monopoly once and for all.
