Private Peceli Nakelo headed for Navua with other soldiers to help flood victims there as floodwaters rose and threatened his home in Naila, Tailevu.

He believed his faith in God would protect his home and family while he was helping those who urgently needed help.

He was among five members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces based at  Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School evacuation centre in Navua providing security for more than 30 flood victims.

They are among the unsung heroes of Tropical Depression 04F who included the Police and who left behind their families to obey the call of duty.

Flood victims yesterday spoke highly of the exemplary performance of the RFMF members. Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama visited them yesterday and thanked them for their service.
