Two members of the Army rugby sevens team are determined to fight their way into the final Fijian Baabas 7s squad to play in Argentina and Chile.

Sevuloni Lutu and Daveta Koroitakali were among the Fijian Baabas extended 7s squad members that marched into camp at USP yesterday.

For 29-year-old, Koroitakali his dream of donning the white jersey is now becoming a reality.

“When I was a young boy my dream was to become a sevens player and to represent Fiji and now it’s all coming together,” he told SUNsports.

“I thank God for helping me throughout my life and to my family for their support.”

For the lanky Yasawa native his success has been due to hard work and endless prayers.

“When I was two-years-old, my parents separated and my mum brought me up. I went through a lot growing up without a father figure and life was hard especially when furthering my education and it made me work even harder. But I’m thankful to God that he had a plan for me and gave me a talent to use.  I wasn’t good academically but I’m grateful God had other things for me. I also thank my superiors in the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) for having faith in me.  One thing I’ve learnt is to do your best because God will be the one who will help you go up.”

Meanwhile, 31-year-old Nasawana native from Bua, Sevuloni Lutu has been part of the 7s squad from 2011 to 2012.

“I’m happy to make a comeback in the team. I couldn’t believe it that I will be back in the squad but I’m thankful and will give my best to make the 12 member squad.”

Lutu had made a tour of duty to the Middle East in 2013 and was away for two years.
