Five hundred and eighteen staff of Airports Fiji Limited will share a total of $741,000 as part of their bonus pay out for 2016.

This was announced by Attorney-General and Minister for Public Enterprise and Civil Aviation Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at the Nadi International Airport yesterday.

Five hundred non- management staff will share from a total of  $605,000 while $61,000 will be shared amongst the 18 management staff.

The balance of 10 per cent will be paid for Fiji National University training levies.

While congratulating the employees for their hard work and effort, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum reminded the team of the important role they play.

“Please remember you play a very pivotal role, 35 to 37 per cent of our entire GDP (Gross Domestic Product) comes from tourism.

‘Over 90 per cent use the airport to come to Fiji,” he said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum also revealed that previously, bonus was paid based on a certain percentage of the salary individual staff received.

This means that a person earning an annual salary of $10,000 received 5 per cent bonus- $500.

This year, he said, the Board decided that all non-management staff earning between $8000 and $20,000 will receive at least $1000 as bonus.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum also encouraged workers to be efficient at their work.

He said Fiji was competing against other developed countries.

AFL executive chairman Faiz Khan  thanked the Prime Minister and the Attorney-General for approving the bonus payments.

“2016 has been a phenomenal year for AFL,” he said.

“It has been made possible by the contributions of each and every one at Team AFL.

“The bonus is well deserved based on the 2 way relationship of performance and reward that we foster.”

Hardwork pays off

AFL air side maintenance staff member Vilikesa Saqiwa was overwhelmed with excitement after receiving the bonus payment.

“It’s really good that we are receiving the bonus just before Christmas. We are happy as we can do Christmas shopping for my family.”

Mr Saqiwa said he will be receiving a bonus payout of $1000 this year.

Terminal co-ordinator Priti Singh said she was very happy with the bonus announcement.

“We feel happy that the non-management staffs are getting more bonus.

“We are pleased that we are recognising their hard work as well.”
