Suva Football Association president Mahendra Prasad’s term has ended after eight years serving the capital district.

And he is proud of what Suva has achieved under his leadership.

“I’ve served the association for a long time and I am really satisfied and grateful with what we have achieved,” Prasad said.

“When I first started as president, my main aim was to lift Suva in each tournament and I’ve done that.

“I am proud of what Suva has achieved and I am comfortable leaving the association knowing we have done together.”

Under Prasad’s leadership, Suva won the Vodafone Fijian FACT for the first time after a lapse of 17 years which is Prasad’s most memorable moment.

“To win after not winning a major tournament in such a long time was really an unforgettable moment.

“I think it was one of the happiest times of my life because we were hungry for that win, especially after doing so well in the national league.”

But with the ups and downs of the association there will always be critics but Prasad has urged fans and business-houses to support the association and the new president.

“No matter what Suva goes through, whether they are winning or losing, there are always critics who think they can do a better job,” Prasad said.

“I also request all the business-houses to also support the club when the new president comes in.

“I will always be a supporter of the club and will be here when the club needs me and I just want to thank everyone who has supported me and my decisions.

“I wish the new president the best of luck.”

During Prasad’s term, Suva has won the Fiji FACT in 2012, the Inter District Championships in 2012 and in 2014 after 31 years in their home ground, qualified for the Pacific Cup and for the Oceania Football Confederation twice in a row.

The association will have their AGM on January 14.
