Investment Fiji Chief: SMEs Important For The Fijian Economy

Small and medium enterprises continue to play a major role in the development of the Fijian economy.

Investment Fiji chief executive, Godo Müller-Teut says SMEs such as South Pacific Elixers and Foneology are good examples of what they can achieve if they set their priorities right.

“We congratulate both the companies for showing exceptional business strategies,” he said.

“It proves that SMEs in the country can achieve greater heights and that is what the government and Investment Fiji would like to see.”

SMEs contribute close to $800 million dollars or 12 per cent to the national GDP.

Mr Müller-Teut says SMEs should aspire to be the exporters as well that will truly cement Fiji’s position as the hub of the region.

“Investment Fiji is there to assist any business who wants to export their products to regional and international markets,” he said.

“We would like to see more SMEs to think broad, expand their horizons, value add their products and start exporting,” he said.

Permanent Secretary for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Shaheen Ali says government is making great strides in the development and implementation of policies contributing to the growth of the Fijian Economy, through enhancing businesses, industries and trade.

“By focusing on the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector as the bedrock for industrial, trade and business growth we are ensuring that the growth is sustainable and inclusive,” Mr Ali said.
