An inmate was allegedly raped by a Fiji Corrections Service officer last month at the Vaturekuka Correctional Facility in Labasa.

The Fiji Police yesterday confirmed that the alleged incident was being investigated.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said they received the complaint on Friday night.

A source revealed that the inmate was a girl who was in remand.

The suspect is said to be in his 30s.

A medical examination is yet to be completed.

The officer has not been charged or taken in for questioning as Police were waiting for the medical report.

It is understood that the girl did not report the matter because she was afraid. She confided to another female inmate who informed Police.

A CCTV footage showed the suspect walking out of the alleged crime scene trying to fix his zipper on the day at the time the victim said the incident occurred.

When this edition went to press there was no response to questions sent to the Fiji Corrections Service.
