Green Gold Kava managing director, Praveen Narayan, was on cloud nine after he was announced as the winner of Emerging Exporter of the Year during the 2016 Westpac Prime Minister’s International Business Awards.

The Award sponsored by Technix Pacific was presented to an organisation that has developed a niche market through creativity; and developed uniqueness in quality, presentation and repertoire within a short period after the introduction of the product to the market.

The aim of the award was to encourage and support entrepreneurship and recognise businesses taking the bold step to successfully export for the first time, creating a niche product through creativity and value adding.

Mr Narayan says his company showed great deal of resilience after being severely affected by TC Winston.

“We had a total loss bill of $150million. Winning this Award speaks volumes of our hard work, it shows that even TC Winston couldn’t stop three agricultural companies from winning 2016 Westpac Prime Minister’s International Business Awards,” Mr Narayan said.

Mr Narayan says the company is appreciative of the Fijian government for not only recognising their hard work and perseverance but supporting them at various stages of business.

“I was part of the National Export Strategy where I was given a grant by the government earlier this year,” he said.

“That has helped my company a lot in getting our product reach international markets.

“We are working in the United States to have kava shots and capsules.  By next year we are also hoping to open up kava bars in Nadi.”
