A $20 million solar panel project will commence in January.

This was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary for Local Government, Housing and Environment, Infrastructure and Transport, Paul Bayley, yesterday.

The solar panel project is being done to provide electricity to the people of Fiji affected by damages during Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Mr Bayley said around 3200 new panels will be installed right around Fiji next month.

Of the 3200 panels around the country, some will be installed at Nakabuta in Sigatoka.

He said the $20m project will be conducted by PowerLite Fiji Limited.

The installations will also be done in the interior parts of the country.

“This is a really programme of solar panel installation and PowerLite Fiji Limited has been contracted to work on this” Mr Bayley said.
