The “Youths for Integrity” network of Transparency Fiji, have received a grant of $26,679 from the Canada Fund for Local Initiative.

The executive director of Transparency Fiji, Koila Kabu, said the grant would support their project to strengthen peaceful pluralism and respect for diversity among youths in Fiji.

They will work with youth leaders and volunteers to enable them to re-train their youth group members in their areas and social networks.

Participants will be inculcated with the values of accountable governance, through training in the provisions of Article 13 of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).

Ms Kabu said that the training supported the work of anti-corruption agencies like Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption.

The grant will also fund the production of Toolkit on Intercultural Conflict Resolution and Training guide on accountable governance under Article 13 of UNCAC.

She added that two important features of the project were the inculcation of Article 13 of UNCAC for participants and the intercultural interaction to enable participants to look beyond ethnic barriers and to engage with each other irrespective of race, colour or creed.

The two-day training was started in the Western Division and the rest will be conducted next year.

Ms Kabu said that Transparency Fiji was grateful to the Canada Fund for Local Initiative for their generous grant that will empower young lives in Fiji.
