Police To Beef Up Presence During 2017 New Year Celebrations

Operations are geared up for the various public New Year’s celebrations throughout the country.

Chief of Operations, ACP Rusiate Tudravu said there will be increased visibility with manpower and resources pushed forward for maximum coverage in towns, suburbs and in rural areas where mobile patrols will also be beefed up.

“For those intending to attend the street parties please adhere to the rules in place of an alcoholic free event as we want everyone to enjoy themselves without any major incident.

“If you are intending to leave your home vacant, please inform your neighbours but most importantly make sure that you have secured all possible points of entry that could be used by criminal elements.”

ACP Tudravu has also called on the public to plan their travel.

“So you are not caught speeding or in a situation that you are putting yourself and your loved ones in danger. As for PSV drivers please ensure the safety of your passengers is looked after as the demand for services could lead to the oversight in maintaining safety precautions at all times.

“Most importantly the safety of our children must be prioritized at all times. If you are intending to attend the street party, it is always a concern that our officers would continuously find children wandering on their own without their parents’ knowledge.”

Members of the public are also requested to take note of the following contact numbers of the Divisional Command Centers if they have trouble getting through to their nearest stations;

Southern Division Command Centre – 9905 529

Northern Division Command Centre – 9905 722

Eastern Division Command Centre –    9905 563

Western Division Command Centre –  9905457
