Two South Taveuni Secondary school students were among those who lined up in Suva yesterday to apply for the Government’s Tertiary Education Loans scheme.

Year 13 students Adi Lisi Tulia, 18, and Apenisa Cava, 18 travelled to Suva to take part in the programme.

“We came all the way from Taveuni and arrived here yesterday morning,” said Adi Lisi.

She said applying for the scheme was very important for her in order to pursue a double major in the Bachelor of Commerce and Law programme at the University of the South Pacific.

Adi Lisi  also received her offer letter from USP on the same day.

Mr Cava is hoping to pursue a field in teaching, which has always been his a dream. This was his first visit to the capital.

“My parents are low income earners so applying for this scheme is very important,” he said.

Both students are confident about the scheme and are encouraging all students to apply and make use of the opportunity. They are both looking forward to university life as well.

Their school was damaged during Cyclone Winston in February.

Tertiary Scholarship Loan board chairperson, Dixon Seeto said they are expecting more applications to come in.

“Students that are currently under the scheme have been doing very well,” Mr Seeto said.

The scholarships are under the National Toppers scheme with 630 places available and will close at the end of this month.

The  TELS are open throughout the year, however students are required to apply before the commencement of each academic term.
