CEO’s New Year Message
Vodafone chief executive officer, Pradeep Lal

Another year is almost behind us, yet it seems like only yesterday that we celebrated the New Year.  As they say, time and tide waits for no men, it is now time to reflect on the past, take on the learningsand shift focus on the new year that is about to dawn upon us.  It is time to make new resolutions, set new goals and targets and put constrictive plans to deliver the results.

For Fiji, It’s been a year of triumphs and tribulations. From the lows and heartbreak caused by TC Winston which caused widespread destruction around the country to the high of Fiji’s first ever Gold Medal at the Olympics which drove the nation into  a frenzy with pride and patriotism, we have seen it all in 365 days.

For Vodafone Fiji, it’s has been a proud all-round achievement as it celebrated 22 years of contribution to the socioeconomic development of Fiji.

Being one of the first corporates to offer assistance to the victims of TC Winston, restoring mobile communication within minimum timeframe to assist in relief and rehabilitation work, and working with FRU to take the Vodafone 7’s team to Olympic Gold, it has been a year of extremes.

Despite the adversities and setback, together as nation we have come out stronger than Winston. Mobile communication and ICT are playing a crucial role in the development of a modern Fiji. Vodafone continues to be the mobile communications of choice to over 760,000 Fijians and thousands of tourists that visit our shores.

Offering the most cutting edge mobile telecommunications in country, we keep our customers connected to one another and the world.

Vodafone continues to the lead the mobile technology in the country with the rollout of 4G plus network.

With the proliferation and adoption of smart handsets and smart device, a whole new world of opportunities are now possible with the Internet of Things.

As the convergence technology takes a greater stranglehold hold, mobile phones (if not already) will be the most powerful device around which a person’s life will revolve.

Having served the nation well for years and in the process establishing itself into a powerful brand, Vodafone Fiji is now moving beyond boundaries. Working in partnership with parent company, ATH Group, Vodafone has now spread its reach in the region with the acquisition by ATH of Bluesky as a teleco operator with operations in Samoa, American Samoa and Cook Island.

ATH has also acquired shares in Telecom Kiribati.  All these operations will be managed by Vodafone on behalf of the ATH group.  This position Vodafone Fiji as a strong regional player offering competition, choice and high quality mobile products and services for the consumers in Fiji and the Pacific.

As we look back to 2016 as a year in review, Vodafone stood out as a resilient network that withstood the wrath of category 5 cyclone. We were able to restore the network in quick time so that people could communicate with their loved ones and reassure each other.

With the power and reach of the mobile telecommunications and social media, the Vodafone Foundation was able to garner the support of many volunteers and together with Vodafone staff were amongst the first on the ground to offer assistance to the victims of TC Winston.  We continue to offer our services by availing our M-PAiSA platform for the disbursement of Government’s Help for Home housing grants.

Vodafone capped off the year with the President’s Award for Business Excellence for the 5th consecutive time and was also recognized with the Socially Responsible Corporate Award at the Prime Minister’s International Business Awards.

As we get ready bid farewell to 2016 and welcome the New Year, we reminisce on the golden memories and achievements as the people’s company.

We take this opportunity to acknowledge our loyal customers for their patronage, partners for their continued support and dedicated employees that have powered our success. We look forward to 2017 with greater optimism and promise to deliver even better to our customers.

From the Vodafone Family, wishing you all a prosperous and rewarding New Year!
