Back home and having fun at Club Feenix

Being a DJ (disc jokey) is all about having fun.

That’s how Krital Prateshma Kumar describe her job as a nightclub DJ in Nadi.

The 24-year-old Nadovi woman plays at the Club Feenix Nadi, a Fijian Bollywood experience owned by her husband, Faheem Khan, who is also a DJ (DJ Fame).

“I don’t feel like I am working but feels like I am having fun, so it is about having fun,” Ms Kumar said with a grin.

“To be honest I feel really good about myself because not many Fijian women of Indian descent do this and we want many of these girls to come out.

“People love music, especially girls. In Fiji we focus more on Bollywood and Fijian music.”

Ms Kumar lived most of her life in Nadovi, just outside Nadi Town, but moved to New Zealand eight years ago.

“We moved to a very small country town called Masterton (between Palmerston North and Wellington).

“It’s about seven hours’ drive from Auckland. Big Bill (Former Flying Fijian Bill Cavuilati) is from my town.”

Mr Khan was born in New Zealand. His parents were from Lautoka.

They run a similar Bollywood night club in Auckland.

Ms Kumar moved to Auckland City too and that was where she took on her DJ career.

“I started being a DJ two years ago. Did not do a course, just learned being a DJ with my husband on Friday nights at the Phoenix Auckland night club,” Ms Kumar said.

“It’s all about having fun at the end of the day, and if any girl wants to learn they can contact us and we’ll be happy to teach them.”

She plays hip-hop and RNB but at Club Feenix she focuses more on Bollywood, Fijian, with hip hop, RNB and Punjabi music too.

Club Feenix Nadi will be scheduled to host Powder Party on New Year’s Eve.
