Young girls should be able to defend themselves from harm, says Sikandar Khan, a taxi driver from Toorak.

This is after an attempted rape incident occurred along Brewster Street a month ago.

Mr Khan said the incident involved a 20-year-old university student.

It is understood that the young woman was on her way to the bread shop early in the morning when a man appeared out of nowhere and tried to take her to an empty house at the corner of Amy Street and Brewster Street.

“The girl escaped the attempt because she fought back and ran,” he said.

The man was unsuccessful because the girl was physically prepared to defend herself.

Mr Khan suggested that all the empty buildings be removed or renovated and the shortcuts in the Toorak area closed.

“We should also have frequent Police patrol in the area,” he said.

The empty house is believed to be under dispute.
