Residents of Tacirua experienced power shutdown on Friday night for a few hours.
Fiji Electricity Authority chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said: “A grader belonging to China Railway was grading in the vicinity and the grader pulled our stay wire attached to the said power pole and as a result the pole fell.”
The incident happened at the Tacirua junction at about 4pm.
A witness said had it fallen onto the other direction, tragedy could have struck.
“Live wires were lying on the main road which also caused traffic jam,” the witness said.
“Luckily no pedestrian was on the roadside nor a car on the road at the time the pole fell.”
