A Narewa villager got a New Year surprise when she gave birth to a healthy baby girl at the Nadi Hospital.

“I am due two weeks from today (Sunday), but I am happy that there were no complications during birth,” said mother of seven Karalaini Liku.

“When my family heard about it, they were over the moon and kept congratulating me and I really feel blessed.”

Ms Liku was spending New Year’s eve with her relatives at a hotel in Nadi when she had rush to the hospital to give birth.

“We decided to spend this year with my family to end this year, and since I was not feeling merry I decided to bake,” she said.

Ms Liku said while baking her water bag broke and she had to come to the hospital with her husband.

“My water broke at the hotel, so I asked my husband to bring me here, It was very fast and I thank my husband and especially the midwives for being helpful,” Ms Liku said.

Her healthy baby girl was born 7:20am and weighed 3.14 kilograms.

Meanwhile, her husband’s family will gather together soon to choose a name for her baby.
