Ashna Kumar is not one of the tallest people in our Suva newsroom. But when it comes to covering stories she walks tall with a big heart.

That’s why she was one of the special recognition award winners during our recent Fiji Sun thanksgiving lunch.

Why so?

Ashna showed great courage and passion for journalism when covering the recent Tropical Depression 04F flooding hitting the Nausori area.

She was tasked with visiting evacuation centres to talk to the evacuees.

To help inform the people of Fiji what was happening in this difficult time.

What was being done to help those affected.

This five feet tall or should I say short reporter waded through neck deep water in Lokia to get to evacuation centres to talk to those sheltering there.

She came back soaking wet to the newsroom with a big smile on her face. She told me happily all the good stories she has come back with after interviewing people.

I did not know whether to be happy or to be concerned.

But she certainly proved that she is up to the challenge of reporting in difficult conditions.

This is what journalism at the Fiji Sun is all about.

Always up to the challenge. Ashna Kumar is one of our team which is Simply The Best.

As Managing Editor News I’m proud of them all.
