The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) CEO, John Tunidau and Department of Energy Principal Policy Analyst, Mr Jeke Pai, joined Heads of Maritime and Energy Administrations around the Pacific to discuss important regional issues, challenges and opportunities for the better governance of the energy and transport sectors.

The six-day Regional Workshop took place in Port Villa, Vanuatu 7th-14th December 2016.

“Energy and Transport are important sectors for the Pacific due to climate change and economic development, and MSAF will continue to support innovative ideas to promote economic growth and lower carbon development,” said Mr Tunidau.

Several initiatives have already been implemented to improve the governance of maritime transport following the 2nd Regional Energy and Transport Ministers’ meeting held in Nadi, Fiji, in April 2014.

Participants of the Workshop highlighted and discussed key issues to be presented at the 3rdRegional Transport and Energy Ministers’ meeting in April, 2017 in Nukualofa Tonga.

The Workshop was hosted by the Government of Vanuatu in collaboration with the Pacific Community (SPC) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). -MSAF
