The Commissioner of Police has directed officers from the Police Special Response Unit to assist in the arrest of those involved in the attack on a Police officer at his home.

Corporal Vilitaki Bari was allegedly assaulted by a group of men at his home as an act of retaliation for a case he had intervened in a case whereby he had assisted a taxi driver who was caught up in a confrontation between two men who refused to pay their fare upon arriving in Caubati.

The officer assisted lithe taxi driver eventually leading to the arrest of the three who were taken to the Valelevu Police Station.

One of the suspects has since been charged with one count each of making off without payment, damaging property and assault.

However last night it is alleged one of the suspects who was released came with a group of men to the police officer’s home and assaulted him.

Expressing his concerns about the alleged attack, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said this is the second attack on his officers who were merely conducting their duties adding he will not be taking the issue lightly.

“My officers are just doing their job and in the case of Cprl Bari where he was performing his duties even beyond working hours show the commitment we have in maintaining law and order”.

“Before acting people must also think about the consequences of their actions and retaliating against my officers is something I will never condone”.

Brigadier General Qiliho has also directed the PSRU team to assist in the arrest of the person involved in the stoning incident in Tamavua-i-wai.
