So, there’s no slow start this time for SODELPA following its missteps ahead of the 2014 general elections.

Interesting to note SODELPA sent out an invitation to opposition political parties for “co-operation” of some sort leading up to the 2018 polls. A few days later they announced that they have received at least 50 applications from interested individuals seeking to run on a SODELPA ticket.

Meanwhile, the National Federation Party has made it clear that they will be running alone and trying to build on their three seats in the House. However, the no-seat Fiji Labour Party seems keen to cosy up to SODELPA.

Already A Star

Only hours after setting foot in Fiji, the new Vodafone Fijian 7s coach has already made himself at home.

After a press conference at Rugby House in Suva, Gareth Baber was heard saying “Bula” to construction workers nearby. It took the workers some time to realise who the smiling “Bula” guy was.

Then they came in numbers to shake hands and wish Baber the best.

FB talk,  no action

It’s so easy to complain, moan and kick up a fuss on social media – especially on Facebook. A woman had posted about someone stealing cassava from her farm. The post was followed by comments from people who shared similar experiences.

When approached for an interview to raise their concerns and for action to be taken, the complainants chose to remain silent and asked that the issue be dropped.

Party Envy

Some Labasa folks were not happy that nothing was staged for them to welcome the New Year. Some took to social media to vent their frustration.

They could only look enviously from a distance as much smaller Seaqaqa showed the New Year Party spirit up North.

Meanwhile the annual street parties in Suva attracted the young and old with the two broadcasters involved trying to outdo each other.

Hard to beat FBC though with its Albert Park venue, activities and live TV coverage. CFL would have had to be a little envious too about the FBC venue.
