Family Relive Dreadful Night

A family of seven has told how their house was damaged by a landslide two weeks ago.
Arun Kumar and wife Melawati Kumar of Tacirua relived their story that dreadful Saturday night.
“We were sleeping. At about two o’clock in the morning my husband woke me up,” Mrs Kumar said.
“He felt the earth and the house move.”
Mrs Kumar said the whole family woke up and just ran out of the house fearing for their lives.
The couple rushed out with their two sons, a daughter-in-law, and a six-year-old granddaughter with their 84-year-old mother-in-law, Lachmi Naidu.
“We were so lucky that some of our relatives were awake that night who felt the shake in the house,” said Mrs Kumar.
In 2003 a similar incident happened to the family but not as bad as it is now.
The family are just lucky to be alive and right now relocation is the only option, because the condition of the landslide is worse and their house is not liveable.
As of now the couple are staying with nearby relatives and are seeking the assistance of the relevant authorities to help them relocate.
