Keeping 7s Simple

Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber is focused on putting together the best team for the second leg of the World Sevens Series in Wellington and Sydney later this month.
The Welshman wasted no time since arriving on Tuesday as he joined the players in their first training run at Uprising Beach Resort yesterday.
“First day with the boys, rugby 7s is a simple game, ”Baber said.
“The biggest element when you are good and not good is the pressure so we need to keep it simple.
“We also talked about other elements like fatigue, gaining possession and communication.
“We talked about these elements and how we can make that easier for each other.”
Baber commented on what went wrong in the first leg of series in Dubai-Cape Town last month.
“In the first round they were slightly fatigue,”Baber said.
“We are in good position to strengthen the game, we are working on that and we are getting ourselves in position to win games.
“We will be working on a little bit of mental game especially when you are under pressure. The boys have shown in the last two years they got the game to beat anybody in the world.”
Baber also rated Fiji’s pool of death in Wellington as they grouped alongside current series leaders South Africa, Japan and Australia
“In reality in the World Series, every pool is going to be difficult, having South Africa, Australia they all going to be a threat,”Baber said.
“I will concentrate on us, I will concentrate on the processes we are doing and make the best team we can be,” he added.
Fitness Test
“We got to work on some game plan and also we got to look at how the weather is like in the next couple of days before having our fitness test.
“The boys know their responsibility,” Baber said.
