The Fijian Women’s volleyball extended squad has been named in preparation for round two of the World Qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand in May.

The 33-member squad includes the two female teams which took part in the Volleyball Zonal Championships in October last year and three overseas based players Agatha Gibbons, Mere Serea and Vasiti Baleilomaloma who are currently based in the United States.

Coach Teresia Vocevoce said their inclusion could be a huge boost for the side.

“We’ve a good group of girls with us which consists of the two teams who took part in the Zonal Championships,” Vocevoce said.

“We included some names who we think could be considered for the final team.

“Among the girls are three overseas-based players who we want to be part of the extended squad.

“We are still holding talks and they presence in the squad could be a huge boost for our girls.

“The level of experience they have from playing top competitions in the USA will give our local girls are real challenge.

“This is the kind of competitiveness we need and if these girls join they will make it hard for our local girls to get a final place on the team.”

Vocevoce said the preparations this year would be different compared to past years.

“We will have a more elite based training,” she said.

“This will help prepare our girls more effectively and help us pick out the best to go to Thailand.”
