The Dhanji Boys futsal team started the New Year with a blast after receiving their trophy and prize money as winners of the Vodafone sponsored 2016 Suva Futsal League, yesterday.

The team received $1500 while runners up Samba Kings got $800 and third place-getter Northpole FC returned home $500 richer.

Dhanji Boys captain Vivek Nadan said it was not easy to defend their title but thankful the players have put in so much hard work as this is their sixth consecutive win.

“This isn’t a new experience for us, this is the sixth time we have won it and I thank the boys for their hard work,” Nadan said.

“Defending a title is not easy, we have been up against tough opponents, and last year was really tough compared to the last couple of years where we used to win by big margins.

“Knowing that each year is getting tougher is a good thing because that shows the level of the game is growing.

“We’ve been together for the past seven years now, a number of players have left and we have included new members.”

Nadan said this year they are focusing on retaining the title as well as build their players for the national team in future futsal tournaments and also plan an overseas tour.

Meanwhile, in the Nasinu Futsal League, Northwest United won $1500, Nadogo Boys received $800 as runners up and N-Tec received $500 for coming third.
